5.8-magnitude earthquake near Fukushima suspends wastewater release from nuclear plant.
Japan temporarily suspended the release of wastewater from its stricken Fukushima nuclear plant after a 5.8-magnitude earthquake on March 15. Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) confirmed no abnormalities on the ALPS treated water dilution/discharge facility, but suspended operations as a precaution. The quake struck off the coast of the northeastern Fukushima region, where the plant was damaged by a tsunami in 2011.
