Forest officials in Jodhpur, Rajasthan detected a leopard's movement near Sursagar area and initiated search operations, with the leopard population in India reaching 13,874 (a 1.08% annual growth rate between 2018-2022). Madhya Pradesh has the highest leopard population, followed by Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu. The National Tiger Conservation Authority conducted a fifth cycle of leopard population estimation using a foot survey and camera traps.
