Kāpiti Coast District Council, New Zealand's first district council, has earned accreditation as a Living Wage employer from Living Wage Movement Aotearoa New Zealand. This ensures workers contracted by the council are paid enough to cover basic living expenses. All council staff are already paid at least the living wage, set at $26 per hour, but this accreditation ensures regular contractors and suppliers meet the criteria as well.
