African American PTSD veterans had higher post-stroke rehospitalization rates, study in Stroke journal reveals.

African American veterans diagnosed with PTSD were significantly more likely to be re-hospitalized after stroke than those without PTSD, according to a study published in the American Heart Association journal Stroke. In contrast, PTSD did not raise the risk of post-stroke rehospitalization in white veterans. The findings highlight the need to focus on high-risk groups and control modifiable risk factors to reduce hospital readmission rates after stroke.
