1916 Victoria Cross awarded to WWI hero Edgar Christopher Cookson sold for £220,000.
A Victoria Cross awarded to Wirral-born Lieutenant-Commander Edgar Christopher Cookson for his heroic actions during WWI fetched £220,000 at auction. Cookson was posthumously awarded the medal in 1916 after being killed during a cavalry charge on water in 1915. The medal was sold to a private collector at Noonans Mayfair auction, and was accompanied by a Distinguished Service Order for Cookson's Euphrates Flotilla operations.
