New Zealand's Meridian Energy replaces diesel ferry with electric hydrofoiling ferry, Candela P-12, on Lake Manapouri, reducing carbon emissions by 240 tons.

New Zealand's Meridian Energy will replace its diesel ferry with the world's first electric hydrofoiling ferry, the Candela P-12, on Lake Manapouri. The eco-friendly alternative will reduce carbon emissions by 240 tons, equivalent to taking 52 petrol cars off the road. The Candela P-12 uses computer-guided hydrofoils, reducing friction and drag by 80%. It plans to begin operating on Lake Manapouri in 2025, contributing to Meridian's goal of halving its emissions by 2030.
