3,000 nematodes discovered in Utah's Great Salt Lake's microbialites, expanding known lake ecosystem organisms.

Scientists at the University of Utah have discovered thousands of nematodes (roundworms) thriving in the microbialites of Utah's Great Salt Lake, a reef-like structure covering about a fifth of the lakebed. The discovery adds another multicellular organism, alongside brine shrimp and brine flies, to the lake's ecosystem. Previously, only two multicellular animals were known to inhabit the salty environment.
