Mille Lacs Lake has a catch-and-release walleye fishing season from May 11 to August 15, followed by a one-walleye limit from August 16, according to Minnesota DNR.

Minnesota's Mille Lacs Lake will have a catch-and-release walleye fishing season from May 11 to August 15 due to hungrier walleye and high catch rates, according to the Department of Natural Resources (DNR). Starting August 16, anglers will be allowed to keep one walleye measuring 21-23 inches or longer than 28 inches. The DNR co-manages the lake with eight Ojibwe bands that hold fishing rights under an 1837 treaty. Meanwhile, Upper Red Lake will have a walleye limit of three fish, with only one over 17 inches, starting May 11, and the limit will increase to four fish per day from June 15. These measures aim to ensure the long-term health of the fishery and a strong winter harvest.
