Maryland Governor approves $425m for troubled Purple Line project, increasing total cost to nearly $10bn; completion set for winter 2027.
Maryland Governor Wes Moore and financial officials approved an additional $425m for the troubled Purple Line project, increasing its total cost to nearly $10bn. This is the fourth funding request since 2016, and the project, a 16-mile light-rail line between New Carrollton and Bethesda, faces ongoing issues like construction delays and contract disputes. Despite escalating costs and mounting delays, the completion date is now set for winter 2027.
