Kentucky Senate Republicans propose a two-year budget with increased school funding, 2.6% state employee pay raise, and additional funding for retirees, economic development, and cancer centers, without guaranteeing teacher pay raises or universal preschool.
Kentucky Senate Republicans have proposed a new two-year budget that includes increased funding for K-12 schools' main formula and doubles the performance-based funding for public universities. The Senate's version of the budget includes a 2.6% pay raise for state employees, $75 million for retirees in the Kentucky Employee Retirement System, $50 million for an economic development fund, and $37 million for cancer centers. The budget cycle starts on July 1. The Senate budget does not include Democratic Governor Andy Beshear's priorities of guaranteed pay raises for teachers and universal preschool for all Kentucky 4-year-olds.
