India's Indian Coast Guard (ICG) informed the Supreme Court that its current recruitment rules don't permit Short Service Commission (SSC) officers, including women, to seek permanent commission. The ICG pledged to incrementally induct more women officers, but its primary focus is on a sea-going service. The court previously urged the Centre to grant permanent commission to women officers in the Coast Guard.
