Former Indian athlete Padmini Thomas and ex-District Congress Committee general secretary Thampanoor Satheesh have left the Congress party and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala. Thomas, an Arjuna Awardee, cited her dissatisfaction with the Congress party and her admiration for the Modi government's focus on women as reasons for the switch. Thampanoor Satheesh claimed that the neglect shown by the Congress party towards its workers led to the downfall of the Congress in Kerala, and predicted that Congress workers from all 14 districts will join the BJP.
