A Cape Breton coal mine that faced a closure due to roof falls last summer is now permitted to resume year-round production. The underground operation at the Donkin mine had been closed since July 15, resulting in the layoff of 130 workers. The mine was allowed to reopen after a third-party consultant reviewed a plan to manage humidity affecting roof stability during warmer months.
