British Columbia conducts a limited deer harvest near CWD cases to test for disease spread.
British Columbia is conducting a limited deer harvest within 10 km of positive chronic wasting disease (CWD) cases to test for further spread of the fatal disease. CWD affects species in the cervid family, such as deer, elk, moose, and caribou. A wildlife permit has been issued to the Tobacco Plains Indian Band to collect up to 20 mule deer and five white-tailed deer by March 31. Post-testing, negative deer carcasses will be used by the community or donated to food banks.
