Bristol scientists propose replacing BMI with waist-to-height ratio for measuring childhood obesity. In a study of 7,237 children aged 9, waist measurements more accurately detected excess fat mass and distinguished fat mass from muscle mass than BMI. The researchers suggest the waist-to-height ratio could be a better alternative for assessing obesity in children and adolescents.
