UK study finds giant sequoia trees, imported 160 years ago, grow at rates close to their native California range and capture large amounts of carbon during their long lives. An estimated half a million redwood trees are in the UK, with more being planted. The trees have been found to grow at similar rates in the UK as in their native habitat and can capture significant amounts of carbon when grown in Britain.
