SingTel considers selling a significant stake in Optus to Brookfield, according to a source.
Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) is considering selling a significant stake in its wholly-owned Australian unit Optus to Canadian private equity firm Brookfield, according to a source with direct knowledge of the matter. SingTel, Southeast Asia's largest telco operator, is in advanced talks with Brookfield over the stake sale, though it has dismissed reports that it is in talks to sell Optus for up to A$18bn (£10.6bn). The company stated it regularly conducts strategic reviews of its portfolio and will explore all options to maximise shareholder value.
