India declares September 17 as 'Hyderabad Liberation Day' to commemorate 1948 police action ending Nizam rule.

India's central government has decided to celebrate September 17 as 'Hyderabad Liberation Day' every year. Hyderabad did not gain independence on August 15, 1947, with India, and remained under the rule of the Nizams. The region was liberated from Nizam's rule on September 17, 1948, after police action known as 'Operation Polo'. This decision aims to commemorate the sacrifices made and instil patriotic feelings in the minds of the youth.
