Belgian farmer sues TotalEnergies for climate change damage, seeking compensation and cessation of fossil fuel investments.

Belgian farmer Hugues Falys has filed a lawsuit against TotalEnergies, seeking compensation for climate change-induced damage to his farm and requesting the company to cease investments in new fossil fuel projects. This marks the first climate change-related lawsuit targeting a multinational company in Belgium. Falys claims TotalEnergies, one of the world's top 20 CO2-emitting companies, is partly responsible for the damage to his farm from 2016 to 2022.
