53-year-old Chinese man Sai Keung Tin has been charged by the US Department of Justice for allegedly trafficking 40 protected eastern box turtles from the US to Hong Kong. Tin was arrested in New York City and faces up to 10 years in federal prison for each of four counts of exporting merchandise contrary to law. Tin is linked to Kang Juntao, a convicted international turtle smuggler, and the turtles were falsely labeled as almonds and chocolate cakes to deceive inspectors.
