Woman survives 20-minute upside-down avalanche burial in high-danger terrain near Metro Vancouver.

A woman survived being buried upside down in an avalanche near Metro Vancouver for up to 20 minutes after snowshoeing with a companion in high-danger terrain. The pair, who did not have rescue gear, were caught in the avalanche at the south face of Pump Peak, 24 kilometers northeast of downtown Vancouver. The woman was eventually found and rescued after her companion dug her out and called for help. The area where the avalanche occurred had been rated as high-danger terrain, with travel not recommended and human-triggered avalanches very likely.
