Medical costs for kids' mental health jumped 31% in five years, study finds.

Between 2017-2021, US pediatric mental health costs rose 31.1%, with families spending $31bn on child mental health services in 2021, accounting for 47% of total pediatric medical spending. Over 9 million children, or one in four, were diagnosed with a mental health issue by 2021, and increased spending on child mental health was associated with a $2,337 average rise in medical expenses for other family members.
