US assesses expanding export controls on China to prevent military chip acquisition.

US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo says the US is constantly assessing the need to expand export controls to prevent China from acquiring advanced computer chips and manufacturing equipment that could bolster its military. The US export controls were first implemented in 2022 to address the use of chips in military applications, including hypersonic missiles and artificial intelligence. Raimondo emphasized that the US has no intention of decoupling its economy from China's, but it cannot allow China to access advanced technology for military advancement.
