UK delays net-zero grid to 2030s, allowing new gas-fired power plants for energy security.

The UK has announced plans to allow new gas-fired power plants to be built into the 2030s, backtracking on its previous commitment to have a net-zero grid by 2035. The government's aim was to have a totally clean power supply by mid-decade; however, new gas plants will now be allowed to pollute as they are considered crucial to keeping the lights on when weather conditions are unfavorable for renewable energy sources. This decision comes as part of the second consultation on the Review of Electricity Market Arrangements.
