Surfers rode the first "five-star" Severn Bore waves of 2024 in Gloucestershire on March 12th. The tidal phenomenon, with waves reaching up to two meters high and speeds of up to 13 mph, occurs in the estuary of the River Severn, where the tidal range is the second-highest in the world. Caused by the incoming tide being funneled into an increasingly narrow channel against the current of the river, the bore attracted hundreds of spectators and dozens of surfers and paddleboarders.
