Minnesota school resource officer bill advances, allowing force in theft or damage cases by students.
A Minnesota school resource officer bill has advanced after winning Senate approval and will head to a conference committee. The bill, which aims to revise rules for use of force by police and school employees, now has an addition permitting school employees to act with force if there is theft or damage caused by students. The bill was introduced in response to additional restrictions on school officers due to use-of-force incidents involving students, which led to several police departments removing their SROs from schools.
