King County Sheriff suspends enforcement of Burien's homeless encampment law pending constitutional review.
The King County Sheriff in Washington has instructed her deputies not to enforce a new Burien city law banning homeless encampments within 500 feet of schools and parks until the constitutionality of the law is resolved. Burien's mayor is examining the inter-local agreement between the city and county, and considers establishing a city-run police department if the agreement is deemed broken. The new Burien law prohibits overnight sleeping on public property if shelters or facilities are available.
