The Supreme Court has stayed the conviction and three-year prison sentence of former Tamil Nadu Minister K. Ponmudy in a disproportionate assets case, and suspended his wife's sentence as well. The order allows Ponmudy's return as a legislator. The case relates to charges of the couple amassing wealth disproportionate to their known sources of income during Ponmudy's tenure as Higher Education and Mines Minister from 2006-2011.
