Study finds East Africa's short rainy season facing increased extreme rainfall due to positive Indian Ocean Dipole events.
A new study warns that East Africa must prepare for more extreme rainfall during the short rainy season. Recent events have shown that some rainy seasons are bringing severe flooding, with Kenya, Somalia, and Tanzania experiencing the consequences. This is linked to a climate event known as a positive Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), and climate model projections show an increasing trend of extreme IODs. The study aims to investigate the effects of more frequent extreme IOD events on rainfall in East Africa.
