South Africa and Zimbabwe will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 14 March 2024 to transfer 15 million cubic meters of treated water annually from the Beitbridge Water Treatment Works in Zimbabwe to Musina in South Africa. The Musina Local Municipality, with a population of 132,009, is located in a dry area and relies heavily on groundwater. The agreement aims to alleviate the water scarcity in the area.
