Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the expanded Terminal 1 at Delhi's IGI Airport, increasing its capacity from 17 million to 40 million passengers annually. The expansion, led by GMR Airports Infrastructure-led DIAL, began in 2019 due to a surge in air traffic movement and passenger numbers. Terminal 1 will now include eight entry gates equipped with DigiYatra's facial recognition system and other amenities such as 20 automated tray retrieval systems and 100 check-in counters. The expanded T1 will join the club of airports capable of handling 100 million passengers annually.
