Newcastle Knights players, staff, and coach Adam O'Brien gathered to honor club stalwart Leigh Maughan, a founding father who advocated for Newcastle's entry into the NSWRL competition in the 1970s and 80s. Maughan, the club's inaugural marketing manager and long-time director, passed away at 84, having recently battled Alzheimer's disease. The team paid tribute at his funeral service and wore black armbands during a recent game.
