The new car tax rules, set to roll out from April 2025, will see electric cars paying more than petrol and diesel vehicles. The changes have been criticised for sending "mixed messages" to UK drivers who are being encouraged to switch to electric vehicles (EVs). Despite calls for the new rule to be scrapped, electric cars will start paying Vehicle Excise Duty from 2025, potentially causing some drivers to pay "three times more" tax.
