194 prisoners relocated from HMP Dartmoor due to radon gas exposure.
HMP Dartmoor, a prison in Devon, has closed 180 cells and moved 194 prisoners due to the presence of radon, a radioactive gas. Radon is associated with around 1,000 lung cancer deaths annually and is more common in areas with high concentrations of granite, such as Dartmoor. The prison's capacity has been reduced by 184 places between November and February, with efforts to reduce radon levels ongoing.
