Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled a 125-foot bronze statue of Lachit Borphukan, a legendary Ahom general, at his burial site in Jorhat, Assam. The statue, known as "Statue of Valour", was unveiled at the Lachit Barphukan Maidam Development Project in Hollongapar near Teok. Lachit Borphukan is celebrated for his leadership in the 1671 Battle of Saraighat, which successfully prevented the Mughal forces from reclaiming Assam. The project, spread across 16.5 acres, aims to develop the area as a tourist spot highlighting the region's history.
