62-foot wooden Skowhegan Indian sculpture in Maine damaged by windstorm, requiring restoration funding consideration.
Maine's Skowhegan Indian, a 62-foot wooden sculpture depicting a Wabanaki fisherman, has been damaged by a windstorm. Completed in 1969 by artist Bernard Langlais, the sculpture was last restored a decade ago. The face was damaged months ago, and the recent windstorm knocked off part of the sculpture's arm and its spear. The Skowhegan Regional Chamber of Commerce is now considering how to fund another restoration.
