British Columbia RCMP have seized over 27 tonnes of contraband cigarettes worth over $24 million in two investigations over the past year. The largest one-time seizure occurred on February 28 in Mission and Maple Ridge, where 67,500 cartons of cigarettes were confiscated. The investigations involved collaboration with tax fraud investigators from the B.C. Ministry of Finance, and the seizures are described as a "major blow" to numerous organized crime groups that benefit from the sales of illicit tobacco.
