San Diego's unemployment rate rose to 4.7% in February, up from 4.3% in January and higher than the national average of 4.1%. The county experienced its highest jobless rate since October 2021 with major losses in retail, tourism, and professional services. Despite this, nonfarm employment grew by 20,500 or 1.3% between January 2023 and January 2024, led by private education and health services.
