Hawaiian officials plan to open a County Expedited Permitting Center in April to speed up the processing of building permits, which are known to be slow, to help the town of Lahaina recover from last year's deadly wildfire. The center will assist private developers working on five separate projects with more than 500 housing units. Local officials hope to clear properties by early next year to allow residents to begin rebuilding.
