Hawaii deploys 80 wildfire detection sensors funded by DHS and USFS after Lahaina fire.
Hawaii is deploying 80 wildfire detection sensors funded by the Department of Homeland Security and the US Forest Service, following the deadly Lahaina fire that killed 101 people. The sensors, which cost $10 per acre on average, use artificial intelligence and smart learning to distinguish between smoke particles and gases produced by fires and other elements like volcanic ash and ocean salt. Governor Josh Green announced the sensors will be strategically placed across the state, with emergency access roads and additional evacuation routes being added as safety measures.
