Cardinal John Onaiyekan, Emeritus Catholic Bishop of Abuja, has called for a change in Nigeria's governance system to reduce corruption and bring government closer to the people. Speaking at a policy dialogue on new governance structure for Nigeria, Onaiyekan suggested considering a parliamentary system, acknowledging its advantages and disadvantages. He believes that any system that brings the government closer to the people and reduces opportunities for corruption will be beneficial for the country.
