Researchers discover a new therapeutic strategy using quinazoline and colistin to target multidrug-resistant Salmonella infections.

Researchers from Finland, Argentina, and Uruguay have discovered a new therapeutic strategy to target multidrug-resistant Salmonella using a non-antibiotic anti-virulence quinazoline compound, combined with colistin, a last-resort antibiotic. The dual treatment inhibits Salmonella's resistance mechanisms and disrupts its envelope electrochemical equilibrium, reducing mortality in an in vivo insect infection model. This approach may help combat antibiotic resistance and improve understanding of bacterial pathogenesis.
