Nigerian President Tinubu suspends REA MD/CEO and 3 execs over N1.2bn fraud, orders wider investigation and appoints new acting management team.
Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has suspended the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) Managing Director/CEO, Ahmad Salihijo Ahmad, and three executive directors over alleged N1.2 billion fraudulent misappropriation in the past two years. The suspended officials are Olaniyi Alaba Netufo, Executive Director, Corporate Services; Barka Sajou, Executive Director, Technical Services; and Sa'adatu Balgore, Executive Director, Rural Electrification Fund. A wider investigation has been ordered into their conduct. Tinubu has also appointed a new management team in an acting capacity, including Abba Abubakar Aliyu as the new MD/CEO of REA, and other acting appointments have been made. Tinubu expects the new appointees to uphold high standards of transparency and accountability.
