Missouri Sheriff Scott Childers was removed from his post following an investigation by the Missouri Attorney General's Office, which found that he allowed detainees to leave jail and bring in illegal contraband. Childers was accused of having inmates work on his property or that of his friends and being paid for it. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey filed a petition to remove Childers from office.
