Federal judge orders Norfolk Southern solely responsible and to bear cleanup costs for Ohio train derailment.

A federal judge has ruled that Norfolk Southern, the railroad company involved in the Ohio train derailment, must solely bear the responsibility and cost of cleaning up the incident. The judge rejected Norfolk Southern's claim that chemical companies and rail car owners should share the cost of the cleanup, stating that this decision would not delay the ongoing lawsuit filed by the Environmental Protection Agency and the state of Ohio against Norfolk Southern. The railroad had argued that companies like Oxy Vinyls and GATX, who made the chemicals and owned the tank cars that ruptured, should also share the responsibility for the damage.
