3C temperature rise in Europe, increasing extreme weather risk and economic losses despite 1.5C global warming limit.
Europe is projected to experience a 3C temperature rise even if global warming is limited to 1.5C, raising the risk of extreme weather events and costing the economy trillions of euros. The EU plans to use satellites for risk assessment, access data on future sea level rise and erosion, and simulate changes in biodiversity. A draft report by the European Environment Agency shows that climate-related incidents have already caused €650bn ($708bn) in economic losses in EU countries between 1980 and 2022.
