Australian home size growth offsets energy efficiency gains.

Research at the University of Wollongong reveals that Australia's growing home sizes are offsetting energy efficiency gains in new homes, leading to a 10% increase in energy consumption for heating and cooling since 2018. Despite 97.5% of new homes meeting minimum energy efficiency standards, the increasing size of new homes is undermining efficiency benefits. The study suggests a radical rethink of Australia's housing energy policy is required.
