Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs has terminated land leases with Saudi Arabian farming company Fondomonte, which was pumping significant amounts of groundwater in western Arizona. Fondomonte, which had been growing alfalfa for export to the Middle East, is no longer irrigating on any Butler Valley farms and has begun vacating the property. The state is taking steps to protect water resources amid droughts and growing populations.
