Three South American college friends from North Carolina State University, Gabriel González, Ricardo Sucre, and Gustavo Darquea, launched Casalú, a rum-based hard seltzer inspired by their home country drinks. The idea came to Sucre during the pandemic while listening to Puerto Rican reggaetón star Bad Bunny. They received a $5,000 investment from the NC State Startup Accelerator and used it to produce the seltzer in Miami, which has since expanded to Total Wine & More stores in Florida. The founders aim to see Casalú become a national and international brand, targeting the younger generation of Latino drinkers.
