60% of elderly face social or digital exclusion due to cash use, Age Action says, calling for 20-year cash acceptance and ATM access regulation.

60% of elderly people face social or digital exclusion due to their use of cash rather than bank cards, according to Age Action. Its policy specialist, Nat O'Connor, called for acceptance of cash for at least 20 years, arguing that regulation is needed for easy access to and acceptance of cash. Over half of older people already experience digital exclusion and one in five are at risk of poverty, with three in ten receiving 90% of their income from the state. Oireachtas Finance Committee members agreed that public transport should be considered when placing ATMs.
